Sharik’s Lament

At first glance, the dog glances back. If it is a dog at all.

It certainly looks like a dog, but further examination suggests a rat, or a very thin cat, or a varmint. But so in any case, whatever it is, it glances back out of two gaping sockets fiercely rendered with hard pressed, concentric circular strokes that scratch and incise the paper they’re drawn upon. The rest of the dog is similarly depicted, except where the yawning black…
